Concrete social commitment

Pastificio BIA has always sought to create synergies with various economic, social, and institutional stakeholders operating in the area. Indeed, it was among the first companies to establish the Consorzio Produttori Madoniti, a consortium of agri-food companies born from the desire to promote and enhance the typical local products, artisanally produced by companies operating in the Madonie area.

Since its inception, Pastificio BIA has been a member of Addiopizzo, the association that provides free assistance to victims of extortion and promotes critical consumption as the main strategy in the fight against mafia organizations. BIA products are currently also available for sale in the Addiopizzo Store network (including online), and one of our members actively participates in the auditions requested by those wishing to join the network.

Since 2019, it has been producing various organic dried pasta products on behalf of Libera Terra (Consorzio Libera Terra Mediterraneo Cooperativa Sociale Onlus), using durum wheat semolina from Southern Italy sourced from land confiscated from the mafia.

Since its inception, it has also collaborated with the Verbumcaudo Social Cooperative, which manages the agricultural land of the same name. Until 1983, it belonged to the Greco mafia family. Thanks to the investigations of Judge Giovanni Falcone and its first confiscation, the land was later acquired by the Sicilian Region’s real estate assets and is now entrusted to the young members of this cooperative. From these lands today comes the Feudo Verbumcaudo organic artisanal pasta, produced in the Pastificio BIA on behalf of this young company.

Currently, together with two other cooperatives/non-profit organizations working in the social and training sectors, and in agreement with the Ucciardone “C. Di Bona” Prison, the company is offering thirteen inmates training, social inclusion, and job placement through the reactivation of the Pasta Factory within the Prison for the production and packaging of pasta (fresh and dried). The goal is to create a business that can generate training, employment, and social inclusion opportunities for the inmates involved in the production activity.
